General Information about Clayton, CA

Clayton (formerly known as Clayton’s or Claytonville) is a small city in the Contra Costa County, California. Located at the foot of Mount Diablo State Park, it spreads over a total area of 3.8 square miles (9.8 km2) and at the 2010 U.S Census, there were only 10,897 citizens in this small city. In 2009, the city of Clayton, celebrated its 45th Anniversary of Incorporation (dated 1964). Clayton’s City Council is an elected policy body that is comprised of five members elected at-large and serving a four-year overlapping terms. The Mayor of Clayton is elected annually by the City Council from among its members. The City Council also functions as the Board of Directors of the Redevelopment Agency, the Clayton Financing Authority and the Geological Hazard Abatement District.
