Josh Sauberman CPR
Josh Sauberman started out teaching CPR for the Moraga Orinda Fire Department in 2013. At the time he was working as a Firefighter/EMT with the Cordelia Fire Protection District. The interest in becoming a CPR instructor was inspired by wanting to help empower people to make life saving differences in those critical minutes before 911 responders arrive at the scene of an emergency. Josh opened CPR Education in October 2013 and has been providing CPR certification classes to businesses, indivudals and groups ever since, and since 2018 has been building a great team of instructors who work with him in this continued goal.
CPR training is a unique and rewarding business to be in because it provides an opportunity to meet people from every walk of life and learn about businesses of many varying industries, all within the context of helping them to make their workspaces safer, more prepared enviornments.
As an entreprenuer, Josh loves meeting other business owners and seeing so many varied workspaces. Visiting and providing CPR training to so many Bay Area businesses has been a real pleasure and a provided Josh a fascinating perspective into the worlds of so many Bay Area professionals.
On a similar note, providing in-home CPR classes is also one of Josh’s favorite activities. Private CPR classes are a wonderful way to deliver this invaluable service to people in their most comfortable setting. Josh says “the great thing about private individuals hiring you to teach them CPR is that you know their motivation is intrinsic. Rather than taking a class to satisfy work requirements, they’re doing it because for one reason or another, they genuinely want to to learn CPR.”
My Philosophy
Josh Sauberman CPR Instruction
I believe people learn that people do their best learning when they’re comfortable and having fun, and that’s my aim in every class. Not only do I want my students to have fun, but I want to enjoy teaching them. Humor alos helps lighten a potentially dark subject into something lite and enjoyable. My goal is to make my students want the class go over time. While I do adhere to planned time frames, I love getting to know my clients, what motivates them and why they’re doing the class.
I go a bit overboard on the jokes and I’m a bit silly, but I always have fun and I’ve found it really helps to engage and dare I say, entertain my students. Most of all, that engagement and enjoyment is what promotes the best educational enviornemnt.

CPR/AED and First-Aid training is the bulk of the courses Josh teaches, but nearly half of them are AHA BLS Provider courses designed for healthcare providers requiring American Heart Association BLS certification. Firefighting Career
2010 – 2016
Josh joined the Cordelia Fire Protection District in March of 2010 as a probationary firefighter and worked his way from Resident Firefighter to Driver/Operator and ultimately to Engineer and Company Officer. In July 2016 Josh left CFPD to focus on CPR Education full time. His nearly 7 years as a firefighter has profoundly shaped him into the man he is today.
Allyn Kemp Award
2016
The Allyn Kemp Leadership and Inspiration award is provided to a firefighter in a leadership role who was determined to be a positive and motivating role model for newer firefighters and those working under him. Earning this award was a highlight and honor for Josh and it still stands in his office.
Most Improved Firefighter
2013
Josh will tell you, the trick to winning the most improved firefighter is simply to start out terrible. Nonetheless, it was a privilege to receive this award which was voted on by his peers and colleagues, and it seems fitting as Josh’s personal philosophy is that no matter who you, or how good you may be, there is always room for improvement, and striving to be better, is something everyone should be doing, everyday.
Chief’s Award
2010, 2011, 2012
Josh Sauberman was awarded the Chief’s award three years in a row for “Service above and beyond”. This is an award given to a select few firefighters, who the Fire Chief recognizes has, as the award states, gone above and beyond in their duties and expected service to the department and its residents. The recognition from receiving these awards were proud moments, and further motivated Josh’s passion to continue working towards helping others.
